Bridging the Generations: Create Effective Interactions with Every Generation | General

Greg WitzGreg Witz

In 2015, there were as many or more Millennials than Boomers in our organizations. This has had a major impact on culture and workplace norms. Gone are the days of corporate ladders, family dinners, and a hard day's work is a hard day's pay. Welcome to the world of smartphones, social media, and telecommuting. The younger generation is coming full force to lead our companies, our governments, and our world. It's a very new game and it's time to get in it or risk freezing into the dark ages on the sidelines.

In today's fast paced global business environment, organizations have focused on developing the tactical or procedural aspects critical to attaining its growth strategies and goals. In an effort to achieve this, leaders have overlooked the most fundamental aspect to organizational success: the human element. To effectively motivate our teams and colleagues, it is crucial to understand how to effectively build relationships, motivate, and engage each generation by adjusting our preferred communication style to construct an approach that shapes and influences desired outcomes.

During this presentation, we will explore the past to understand how traditional leadership styles influenced Boomers and highlight the benefits they bring to the workforce. Moving from the past to the present, we will examine the evolution of leadership styles and how the youngest generations are shifting workplace dynamics. This allows us to highlight both the differences and, perhaps more importantly, the similarities in the generations to allow us to more effectively communicate, respond and relate to others, irrespective of their generation.

What you'll learn:

  • The evolution of leadership and workplace culture
  • Understanding how each generation perceives the workplace
  • How to effectively connect, lead, and engage every generation
  • How to adjust your communication style to achieve desired outcomes.
